Folic Acid Plus
Helps Prevent Birth Defects
Women who are pregnant or planning to get pregnant within the next six months should be thoroughly informed about the importance of folic acid in their diets. Folic acid, found naturally in fruits and vegetables, is needed for proper growth of the unborn child. When a woman is folic acid deficient during pregnancy her child has a much higher risk of being born with a serious birth defect. Folic Acid Plus contains the RDA of folic acid for pregnant women blended with bee pollen and vitamin C to help provide ample amounts of the nutrients vital for the birth of a healthy baby.

Folic Acid

In studying 106 women who had babies born with serious birth defects scientists found one common factor, half the women had eaten poor diets during the first six months of pregnancy. Doctors then counseled 106 of these women about the importance of eating fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains before and during pregnancy. All the women who changed their diets gave birth to a second healthy child. Eight women out of a control group of 71 women who received no counseling and did not change their diets had a second child with birth defects.

So what is in fruits, vegetables and whole grains that helps a mother to have a healthy child? Scientists found it was an important B-complex vitamin-folic acid. Folic acid plays a key role in the duplication of DNA. Without it new cells either don't grow, or they grow with defects.

Besides having children prone to birth defects such as spina bifida and cleft palate, mothers who are low in folic acid may experience gum inflammation and anemia which can lead to sleeplessness, irritability and depression. It is recommended that pregnant women receive 400 mcg of folic acid per day.

Bee Pollen

This flower substance gathered by the bees has been called nature's most complete food. The bees collect pollen and store it in sacs on the back of their legs. Pollen is like a small seed. It has an outer husk which humans cannot digest alone, but after bees mix it with stomach acids and nectar, pollen is easily absorbed by humans. Bee pollen provides every vitamin, mineral and trace mineral known. It also contains all eight essential amino acids necessary for the growth and healing of tissues. Bee pollen is full of antioxidants which fight free radicals. It has been shown to protect the body from the dangerous radiation and toxic chemicals which are rampant in our environment today.

With all these important nutrients it is easy to see that bee pollen can be of great importance to the growing, unborn child. In addition, bee pollen has been proven to improve immunity and mental function and increase energy and the vitality of the reproductive system, all of which the mother can be thankful for during this time of stress on her body.

Vitamin C

This vitamin is commonly taken when a person has a cold, and for good reason. White blood cells, the ones that fight disease, contain a large amount of vitamin C and must have it to function. Vitamin C has also been shown to increase the production of white blood cells.

Found in citrus fruits, this vitamin helps to form collagen, the substance that binds tissues together. Vitamin C encourages the abundant production of new tissues for the unborn baby.

Vitamin C works hand in hand with iron. Without vitamin C, the body would be unable to absorb iron, a mineral important to red blood cells and the transportation of oxygen to all parts of the body.

It is recommended that pregnant women or women planning to get pregnant should take one to two tablets of Folic Acid Plus daily with a meal.
